An Act of April 2, 1792 authorized the production of the Half Cent. Five different design types where produced, but the number produced of Half Cents was still relatively low, probably because they were not a very popular coin – likely because of their size. The following are the five design types: Liberty Cap, head left, minted only in 1793. Liberty Cap head right, minted from 1794 -1797. Draped Bust, produced from 1800 to 1808. Classic Head, minted from 1809 – 1835. Braided Hair type, produced from 1840 – 1857, only proofs are thought to have been produced from 1840 thro 1848. There are many varieties and variations in the Half Cent series including restrikes of the proof only strikes.
