This design of Liberty Head Large Cent, produced from 1816 through 1839, is often referred to as Matron Head Large Cent or sometimes as Cornet Large Cent. After 1835 the Matron Head Large Cent was modified to having the cornet a bit more pointed and the tip of the bust of Miss Liberty narrower and not as round. A set of the Matron Head Large Cent can be assembled with moderate ease, especially in the circulated grades. Some of the dates, in particular, 1817 and 1820 have hoard finds to represent them and can be located in Mint State grades a bit easier. In addition the collector will find many die varieties and over dates to make putting a set together more challenging.
