The Winged Liberty Head Dime is frequently referred to as the Mercury Dime. The obverse is a depiction of Liberty with the wings on her cap meant to symbolize liberty of thought. Minted from 1916-1945, the designer is Adolph Weinman. The AW monogram appears just below the right side of Liberty’s neck. The Mercury Dime series is one of the most popular with collectors. Mercury Dime examples with full split bands on the reverse are highly desirable coins.
